The Education program at COGS was greatly expanded in the fall of 2007, with many new classes added. Following are more detailed descriptions of the children, youth and adult programs.

Sunday School

Christmas Pageant
December 2006

The COGS Sunday School is open to children aged 3-11, or preschool through 5th grade. Children sit with families for the beginning of regular church services, then gather in the audio-visual room for a group session of devotion, singing and offering. At the end of each month, a collection of clothing or toys is taken up to benefit local orphanages or schools, which provides a meaningful opportunity for students to give to others. Children then break into smaller, age-based groups for lessons. Our curriculum comes from Spirits of the Season by Cokesbury Publishers and follows the same lectionary schedule used by our pastor. The Sunday School also traditionally performs a Christmas program. We warmly welcome any and all children to join us for Sunday School, and encourage adults and youths to volunteer in teaching and assisting. The Sunday School "year" ends June 9, and a new one will begin August 31.

Youth Program

Youth Group
Fall 2007

In the fall of 2007 an eight session youth program was offered, titled, “Choosing a Life that Matters.” The students explored topics such as their purpose, the choices they face, their ministry gifts, and tools for discerning vocation. The sessions were led by Pastor Dan and Holly Raatz and held in the Raatz’s home. The Youth Program is geared to students in middle through early high school. Program times were Sunday afternoons from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., with sign up in advance required. Students were expected to attend at least six of the eight sessions. The theme and details for fall 2008 program will be posted in the Announcements.

Adult Bible Study and Spiritual Disciplines

The adult education program seeks to give multiple learning opportunities in diverse settings. Throughout the program semester, we will try to have books studies, interactive discussion formats, lectures, retreats, and weekend workshops. We will examine books of the bible such as Joshua, Ruth and Romans and themes such as covenant and community. We will also strive to teach and develop spiritual disciplines that give practical means of enriching our relationship with God.

Introduction to Christian Faith

This is a six-week informal course for adults designed to give participants a basic overview of Christian faith and practice.
